THE CONSORTIUM WINS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD
March 8th, 2008
The Consortium, an award winning national procurement and fulfilment company has won the Wiltshire Business
of the Year Environmental Award.
Announced on 29 February, the award recognises The Consortium’s longstanding commitment to ‘green issues’
and sustainable policies.
The Consortium has over 25,000 customers nationwide, mainly in the education and social care sectors and
views sustainability as a commercial imperative not just an ‘add-on’.
Melanie Teal, Chief Executive of The Consortium comments: "We are all thrilled to have won this award,
it recognises our efforts across the company to respect the environment and act sustainably.
"Minimising the impact of our activities on the environment runs through everything we do, from
encouraging our customers to receive documentation electronically, to working with suppliers to
consolidate deliveries, switching to green energy and installing solar water heating or encouraging
our staff to car share, walk or cycle to work.
"It’s not just words, we care about the environment and do our best to think and act sustainably."
The company, which employs over 240 people in Trowbridge, has been an active member of the UN Global
Compact on sustainable development since 2005 and has achieved ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) accreditation.
The Consortium also has a strong tradition of supporting charities, having raised more than £54,000
over the last two years for Cancer Research UK. In addition, during 2008, staff will give up to
480 days of voluntary work to the local community through a Business in the Community scheme.
