Growing Moustaches For Men’s Health Charity!
Growing moustaches for men’s health charity!
November, 2010
Staff at The Consortium have a long tradition of finding unusual ways to raise money for charity. However, this November they have surpassed themselves!
22 male staff are taking part in the charity event, Movember, which involves growing a moustache for the whole of November (hence the name Movember) to raise funds for charities that focus on men's health.
The enthusiastic response includes volunteers from all areas of the business – and even includes 4 of the company’s directors! As they are required to start the month clean shaven, it meant one member of staff had to shave off his beard of 23 years to take part!
Chief Executive, Melanie Teal praised staff for their charity work: "We are very lucky that our staff are so passionate about raising money for charity. Last week we had a really successful fundraising day for Breast Cancer Research and this week we've started Movember to raise money for men's health charities"
Movember is a growing, international event that was inspired by women’s success in fundraising for breast cancer. Last November, over quarter of a million men took part and raised £26m worldwide. In the UK, the funds raised by Movember go to The Prostate Cancer Charity, the UK’s leading charity for the number one cancer affecting men.
Every year in the UK 36,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and one man dies every hour from it. The Prostate Cancer Charity is striving for a world where lives are no longer limited by prostate cancer.
We'll be following our team’s progress throughout the month including how much sponsorship they have raised and we’ll taking photos of their moustache growing. Updates will be posted on our website.
